Iron defi ciency is a common co-morbidity in HFrEF patients.1-2 The prevalence of iron defi ciency in heart failure (HF) patients is approximately 50%.1 Patients with iron defi ciency and HF have a higher mortality and are more commonly hospitalized by HF-progression than HF patients without iron defi ciency.1-2 Treatment of iron defi ciency, regardless of haemoglobin level, reduces HF symptoms and improves quality of life and physical function.3-5 On May 17 2017 Prof. Dr. Piotr Ponikowski will discuss the most recent available data and his own experiences with diagnosis and treatment of iron defi ciency in HF patients. Prof. Dr. Piotr Ponikowski is Head of the Department of Heart Diseases, Wroclaw Medical University and Head of the Cardiology Department at the Center for Heart Diseases at 4th Military Hospital, Wroclaw, Poland. He was also Chair of the 2016 ESC Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute and Chronic HF.
